December Daily Journal - 2009

It's been awhile since I have posted - I have been working on something new a December Journal. I got the project from Ali Edwards. The idea is to create thebasic book to be ready for each day as it comes. Once I have journaling and pictures, I can embellish a bit further. There is a page for the first 25 days of December, maybe I will go to the end of the month. Each page captures a memory of that day. I really like how my journal came out. It was fun to create. This started with a 7x7 album kit from Fancy Pants. There were chipboard pages, acrylic pages and two black felt pages. I made some of my own pages from card stock and file folders. Easy to do by tracing the shape. It is not bound yet, I am still trying to decide how I want to do this.

Cover page - using fabric thickers, quickutz die for red frame, cardboard mat, reindeer is grunge board covered with distress crackle paint with bells, ribbon and hemp around his neck and the hollies are distress stickles. 4th page, backside of black felt page, patterned dies cuts from K & Company, patterned paper with Theresa Collins journaling sheet, felt number five. 6th page is patterned cardstock with cardstock mats, Hambly scroll rub-ons, felt number six and K & Company chipboard piece.

7th page is backside of patterned cardstock, scroll die cut from a monthly kit, red metal gems and red felt number seven. 8th page has vintage Santa die cur, scallop circle from vintage book text, red felt number and acrylic gold corner pieces.

Quilt & more

So over the Labor Weekend I was sewing 4" squares together to make my second quilt. It is made of blue and browns. I had to cut 500 of the print fabric and 228 of the sold fabric. Four inch squares - WHAT - maybe next time it will be 12 x 12 squares, I am sure it would be quicker. After cutting the squares, I sewed two squares to together leaving me with this pile.

Then I had to sew the those sets into rows of 28 squares. Had to sew 26 rows. Here they are hanging on my TV cabinet doors, ready for the next step. Which is to iron the seams, sew the rows together, make a sandwich on the floor of quilt backing (haven't decided on muslin or a sateen), then cotton batting (Just found this product a few months ago, I used polyester batting in my first quilt - guess that was a no no) then the soon to be quilted cover. More to come - I needed to take a break from it.

So Mister Tank decided to eat some foam this morning right before i left for work. I mean this got chewed in a matter of seconds that he was out of my sight. What a goof ball. This was Jason's foam mattress topper he had with him at school and so I decided to fold it in half and cover it with a sheet for a re-purposed dog bed. It was nice and comfy Ozzie told me. ARRGGGHHHH - TANK STOP CHEWING STUFF !!!!!

Today was a very tough day at work - without going into all the negative details, I am letting it go (wow - see how I am growing !) It turned out to be not as bad as I had envisioned. I tend to over think things to my disadvantage. I am trying to allow things to happen as they should and stop trying to control the situation (wow-light bulb moment- thanks Oprah) What a emotional roller coaster day. I can't keep doing that - to much stress. But tomorrow is a new day and I am sure there is something new for Tank to chew on !!!!

............and so it begins

BIRTHDAY - HIP HOP HANGOVER

I made this card for the HIP Hop Crinkle challenge but didn't get it posted in time. I used a kraft card with scrap white card stock strips. I stamped The Dream Tree stamp from Unity Stamp Co (http://www.unitystampco.com/stamps/1204-US229W_Dream_Tree_Background ) onto blue patterned card stock using Broken China distress ink. I cut the image into four sections and crumpled each one up and inked the edges and over the bumps. I stamped birthday from Unity Stamp Company May kit of the month ( http://www.unitystampco.com/stamps/2256-KOMMAY09_another_sweet_day )

Live Simply

I had fun creating this little canvas. I need to do more of these projects. This is my first one. I painted a 5 x 5 canvas (got on clearance at Joanns for .97 cents - gotta love that) Use a page from an old dictionary with the word living at the top left of the page. Stamped Unity Co. stamps on the book page, canvas. Cut out the bird and mounted it to card stock and added gems. Attached that piece to torn piece of cardboard. Used some rusted wire and attached a distress crackled chipboard piece with a metal frame piece I got off Etsy and the end of the wire I strung some beads. I used a vintage piece of something I got in a jar of buttons I bought at an estate sale and some scrap ribbon. It was fun to make.

HIP HOP HANGOVER

Today is Unity Stamp Company's Hip Hop Hangover. I made this card with USK-201-1 Big Polka Dot Cupcake. I used Walnut distress ink on the edges and the stamped happy birthday stamp. The striped card stock is from Basic Grey, archaic, prehistoric. Tied twice with hemp twine. I really like the soft vintage look. The cupcake is stamped on scrap card stock not sure of brand.

Father's Day

Happy Father's day to all - My dad passed away when I was seven. I don't have a lot of memories of him, but I do hear stories. I wish I was able to grow up with him, I think my world would have been really different. It would been exciting to know him and my wish for him would have been to be on this earth longer than his short 52 years. (The top left picture of him is his graduation in 1938, the top right picture is of him at Indian Lake in Michigan and the lower one is of him in his Army uniform.) God Bless Michael Lambert Ferriter !!

Ozzie

I took this picture a few days ago of one of my dogs Ozzie. He is the sweetest boy ever. He is a rescue dog my son got from a shelter in Iowa back in 2005. He has some health issues, with his back legs, but he is such a lovey. I love the way his face looks in the picture. One of me looking down and his sweet eyes looking up. This is the gentle hopeful look I get everytime I see him and he just makes me happy. I like having my toes sneak in the picture because it reminds me to appreciate those smaller moments that make me smile.

SURPRISE

I came home to this on my doorstep. What a wonderful surprise. My fantastic son Brian bought this for me for Mother's day. Just thinking of Boo makes me happy. He lives so far away in San Diego and I miss him lots. I know he is happy and safe living in California, so that brings some comfort, but still tough for me that he is that far away. He has the biggest heart and is so generous. I love him to pieces. Thanks again Boo, every time I use it I will smile and think of you !!

Catch up 5/20/09

So it has been a bit of time since posting. I attended a great event in North Carolina - Donna Downey's Inspired 2009. It was so cool. I took mini classes that I made - An acrylic album, three pages to go in the acrylic album, a mini water color book/album, an art ring, a house shaped collage, a Theresa Collins acrylic album, a painted canvas bag and carved my own rubber stamps. Friday the main classes started with a really cool travel folio, then we worked with metal embossing and ended with an actual painted self portrait on canvas. The Saturday main classes started with a fabric journal, then we created polymer clay beads to create a watch and then the last one a really cool collage with different elements. It was so cool to meet Donna and the other teachers, I feel like she is a rock star. We had a great table group that went form main class to the next. The event was like speed crafting, I can't believe how quickly it went by. But it was SO COOL. I will definitely go back again. It was very renewing. Met some really fun people and got to do what I totally enjoy doing - creating !! Wow , I wish I could do this full time - some day. Words can't explain how meaningful this event was to me !!!

Here is a shot of the Group B table ladies at dinner on Saturday night. (top left to right - Roberta, Anna, Barb - seated - Heather, Nancy and Maureen)

Easter Weekend

Did a road trip to ISU this Saturday. Barb, Melissa, Red and I went to go see our cousin Pat Brynes in his last play at ISU. He was Peron in Evita. He was FANTASTIC !!! He has so much talent and I can not wait to see him grow and succeed. I will also be a big fan and stalk him when he becomes famous !!! We took him to lunch at Flat Tops and did a little shopping before the show. The four of us had a few cocktails after the show. Easter morning we woke up to a knock at the door and the Easter Bunny (aka Barb) left us a bag full of goodies. How sweet was that !! Driving home, my engine light came on about 1/2 hour from home, it made me nervous. So tomorrow I have to make arrangements to get that looked at. I hate car trouble. am glad that the car did not break down on the road.

Successful Play date for Tank

So I took Tank over to play with Gab, my brother's dog. He and Gabe played very nice together. I am really glad, because this is his first meet and greet with another dog since I have had him. So I am happy to see he gets along well with other dogs. I am hoping this poops him out for a bit. The picture shows how pooped he is after the play date. It also gives Ozzie a break !!!

Sad news but its good to have Friends

Today I attended the service of a friend's of mine father who passed away. Miss Daph-O-Knee. It was a very lovely service. It was so touching to hear friends, coworkers and family speak about Ivan Fair. So kind, a funny man, great co-worker. How nice to hear those these as I hope it gave Daphne some comfort. Daphne also spoke. It was emotional for her, but very touching and she got through it. I am so proud of her. She is so strong. I know she will be hurting for awhile and I hope I can make her smile sometimes during her down days. We went to Grace O'Malleys after the service. It was nice to spend some time with friends -Tracy and John Hill, Michelle and Tim Highland, Daphne and Jerry Leary - they are good people. I am very lucky to have them in my life. God Bless Ivan Fair - thank you for having such a wonderful daughter.
